Dr. Ben Wood Johnson is an artist from the Caribbean. Born in Haiti in 1975, RudyRudy, Maestro Rudy, Ti Tambourine, and Rudymizik are Dr. Johnson’s artist nicknames. Dr. Johnson’s first musical journey began in 1978 with Bossa Combo’s popular Carnival “Respectez Toto.” While in school, the young Rudy started banging the wooden plank, known as “Banc,” which turned the entire school into a frenzy, as every student became entrenched in dance and chant of the popular refrain “Toto, toto, bat toto paske l tro brigan,” which earned Rudy the nickname of “Ti Tanbourinè,” given his early-shown talent in hitting the bench with a musical style and artistic precision that amazed the school principal and others who witnessed the moment of euphoria in the school with little Rudy “Ti Rudy” at the helm of the musical chaos.
Rudy is a vocalist. He is an instrumentalist. Rudy plays keyboard, drums, Tambou/congas, and other instruments. Rudy is a multi-language singer/songwriter. His music is in English, French, Haitian Creole, Spanish, and Portuguese (Brazilian). The repertoire includes songs in the following genres: Haitian Kompa, Reggae, Latin, Hip Hop, R&B (Soul), and other Grooves. Rudy composes, arranges, and produces his music.
